Counsellor Kait
Hi! I am glad you found my site! The goal of this site is to help new school counsellors find resources that I have tried and tested, allow students to practice their mindfulness strategies when they are away from school, and for teachers I currently work with to find documents/materials associated with the guidance program I am presenting or have presented. These resources and ideas are solely my opinion and does not reflect the opinion of others.
I am in my 4th year as a school counsellor, following work as a Clinical Coordinator for at risk youth. I have my Bachelor's Degree in Education and a Master's Degree in Counselling. I am also working on my LCT-C (Licensed Counselling Therapist Candidacy).
I firmly believe in implementing programs and counselling using evidence-based resources. This means I only do things that have a lot of peer-reviewed research to support them. I primarily use CBT (and ACT), DBT, Solution-Focused Therapy and restorative practices when counselling kiddos. When doing programs, I mostly use Superflex, WITS, What to do when you...Worry Too Much and What to do when your... Temper Flares (both by Dawn Huebner), Zones of Regulation, Size of the Problem, Bounce or Splat, as well as others! I also enjoy doing group-therapy.
If you have any questions about the resources I have listed, feel free to contact me!
By day, you will find me at various elementary schools enjoying the many aspects of my job. By night, you will find me directing a Highland dance school, training for nationals and worlds as a competitive dancer myself, and spending lots of time with my family (especially my dog!). During the summer, I am usually travelling for dance to Canadian and World championships with my dancers, taking care of myself and recharging, and spending copious amounts of time in the sun!
